As a young boy, Matthew Wilson played on the Collinsville Extreme baseball team, and they only won a single game all season. But now, he is leading the Liberty Middle School football team to victory as the starting quarterback.
Matthew plays four sports throughout the year: football, basketball, track, and baseball. While basketball is his favorite, he excels at everything he tries. Given the choice, Matthew would like to pursue a future in basketball because it is less dangerous than football, and this would give him the best potential for a long career in sports. A long-term career in sports may be possible for him because two colleges are already looking at him as a prospect.
Matthew attributes his success to hard work and the help of those around him. His brother, RJ Wilson, is a great inspiration to Matthew. Matthew says, “He wants the pure greatness out of me.” Matthew said that his brother encouraged him to take 100 basketball shots a day. He saw great improvement in his game when he took his brother’s advice. Their relationship has helped Matthew achieve great success.
If Matthew has the chance to play professionally, he has some lofty dreams. He would love to be a part of the Dallas Cowboys someday. They have always been a favorite team of his. If he goes the basketball route, his dream team would be the Miami Heat. Even if these two teams aren’t possibilities, Matthew says, “I would take any opportunities possible.” For now, he continues to lead the way at Liberty Middle School as a star on the field and on the court.
