Mr. Lloyd, a coach of the liberty baseball team, was interviewed about his thoughts on state. He likes coaching because he likes making good relationships with the kids on the team. Mr. Lloyd doesn’t like it when the game moves slow because he says for people that like baseball it is hard to watch when it is a slow-paced game. He has been playing baseball since he was 5 years old. Mr. Johnes, another coach on the team, wants the best out of everyone on the team. Mr. Lloyd said he is, “competitive but in a good way.”
The first team they played for 3rd place was Triad and they won, so they got to play for first place. The team they played was Chatham. It was a good game. Liberty’s team had scored some runs at the beginning of the game. One of the umpire’s had made a wrong call and the other team got more runs and took the lead. Liberty couldn’t make a shutout before the game ended and they got 2nd place. The score was 5 -8. Liberty was very disappointed, but they should still be proud of themselves.
Many players on the team said that they would have rather gotten 3rd than lost for 1st. Owen Manny, 8th grader, has been playing baseball since he was 5 years old. He mostly plays third base and outfield. He says it is fun because he gets to play with his friends. He is planning on playing baseball in high school and is not sure about college yet. At state when they weren’t playing games, they hung out at the hotel and went to restaurants. Owen says, “It was a very successful season.”
