Liberty Middle School has recently gotten a new roof and solar panels. It has affected the school’s staff and students’ experience. In social studies one day, a class had to use the home alone classroom. In several other classes, there were loud construction noises.
Mrs. Rachel Harris, an 8th grade social studies teacher, was affected by all the construction. Mrs. Harris said, “It was annoying cause I’m jumpy.” Due to the construction Mrs. Harris was moved to the home alone room. Students were not told why they had to move rooms. When asked about the reason why the roof was being replaced, Mrs. Harris said that she heard the roof was old, saying “Most roofs have to be redone after 20 years.” She said overall it wasn’t very annoying to move rooms once, though she did reveal the reason that the house sorting party was stopped early was because of a water main break caused by the roof replacement.
Mrs. Edwards, the principal, said that the roof was 20 years old and that roofs have expiration dates, and that the Liberty roof’s time was up. Unlike the rumors, the roof was not being replaced due to a hailstorm, it played no factor, they had been planning to replace it for a while. The principal was annoyed about the noise, and so were the teachers. Thankfully, the workers would tell the principal what section they were working on so she could tell teachers. This did not cost the actual school any money, the roof replacement was financed by the district not by the individual school.
The crane, while it was in the back of the school, blocked PE students from getting out. This forced them to go out the front, which was an inconvenience. This has mildly inconvenienced the staff and annoyed students.
