Liberty’s FFA, led by Mrs. Fields, the 7th grade agriculture teacher, went on their first field trip on Thursday, Sept. 14.
The group went to Beaver Dam Park for a Tree Identification Competition. The Lincoln FFA went with them as well and competed as a team together.
While they were there, they had to identify tree types, measure trees width, height, and length, take an exam on districts and on some facts about trees and identify tools used with trees.
Blair Brewer earned 8th place. “I felt surprised and excited!” she said.
She scored a total of 141 points. She had to take two exams, plus tree ID, equipment/tool ID, and timber cruising (which is measuring the height and width of a tree).
Blair’s favorite part of the trip was doing the tool ID. She said she liked it “because it was the easiest.”
Liberty placed sixth out of nine total teams.
