“This show was so much fun!” Mrs. Gibson, the director of the Liberty Middle School Act 1 program, says about this year’s fall play. This year’s school play was The Dummest Play Ever, a humorous show with an amazing cast and crew. Vivian Matthews, an 8th grader at Liberty, played Sarah Reynolds, a graduating student, in the Dummest Play Ever. Vivian says that her favorite part about this play was the people. Vivian has done 2 other shows for Liberty, including the spring play, The Addam’s Family, in 6th grade, and Bye Bye Birdie in 7th.
From actors to tech crew, Act 1 seems to be an enjoyable and inclusive space for all. 7th grader Ava Helbling describes her experience in the play as, “wonderful and eye-opening.” She has been in 2 other shows with Liberty, including 30 Reasons Not to be in a Play, and Bye Bye Birdie. Ava says that she loves how Act 1 provides her with opportunities she might not have had otherwise.
Megan Lane’s role in the Dummest Play Ever was just as important as any actor, and she played a significant part in the show’s production. Megan is an 8th grader at Liberty, and this was her very first show! She is a stage manager for Act 1, and her job is to help people find their places and answer any questions they may have. She describes this show as stressful, exciting, and tiring, and says that her favorite part about being a part of this show, was, “Being able to help create the big picture.”
There wouldn’t be a show without a director, and Mrs. Gibson is a great one! This is Mrs. Gibson’s 16th year with Liberty, and she has done 31 shows! Her job was to prepare actors for being on stage, help the light and sound crew, and help with microphones. She says that she loves seeing all of the small parts come together, and that she’s proud of everyone who participated. Act 1 also has a wonderful assistant director, Mrs. Banker. It is Mrs. Banker’s second year helping Liberty’s Act 1, and she says that she loves seeing it all come together, and she says that the students were awesome, dedicated, and funny.
